The Journey

Who:

Kids who will be in Pre-K – 5th grade in the Fall.

What:

Kids’ Small Groups “The Journey,” is an amazing small group discipleship program for kids at Bayside West. There are two primary divisions: Pre-K – 2nd grade and 3rd – 5th grade.

The curriculum for Pre-K and 2nd graders focuses on introducing kids to a relationship with Jesus and what it means to be a part of His church family. They are taught all the major stories about Jesus Christ in the Gospels and His church in the book of Acts. Children will learn about character traits as the Bible comes to life in their small group. They will build lasting relationships with their peers and leaders as they meet each week. Ultimately, their eyes will be opened to the amazing, limitless love that God has to offer each one of them.

The curriculum for 3rd-5th graders is truly a course in systematic theology. In a fun and creative way, this curriculum will take them through what it means to know Christ, to grow in their relationship with Him, and to then begin serving Him in ministry and missions. All students, regardless of age or grade, will begin in Children’s 101 as they recognize and reflect upon their relationship with Jesus. Children’s 201 challenges students to dig deeper in their faith through spiritual disciplines such as how to read the Bible and pray. Next, students will assess their own unique gifts, and how God can use them to serve in ministry in Children’s 301. Finally, the curriculum will come full circle in Children’s 401 as the students are challenged to share Jesus through their testimonies, mission trips, and more.

When:

We will start in September and meet throughout the school year until May, in accordance with the children’s school schedule. When schools are out for breaks, we will not meet. This is a program that builds on each other, so registration is limited to the beginning of the year. We will meet on Tuesday nights from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

The Journey does not take the place of a regular weekend church service at Bayside West. Because this is a discipleship program, regular weekend attendance is expected.

Where:

Bayside West Community Church

Why:

Small groups are not just for adults, they are for kids, too. Our hope is
that children in The Journey can dig deeper into God’s Word as
supplement of reinforcement to their regular weekend church
attendance. The relationships that the children build in these small
groups with their peers and leaders will truly last a lifetime. It is all
about life change through lasting relationships.

How do I get my child involved?

Fill out a registration form and return it with
the full registration fee. The registration fee is $85. This includes the child’s book, t-shirt,
materials, and end-of-the-year awards. If you have questions, or need
help with the registration fee, please contact Rob McGee at
RobM@Baysidewest.com.  Registration is closed in December.

How can I be involved?

Being involved in The Journey is fun and a great way to learn alongside
your kids. You will grow and be encouraged as you are a part of the
maturity and discipleship of the next generation of world leaders! There
are many ways to be involved! You can be a leader each week, a substitute
when needed, or serve in a creative way such as craft prep, music/worship
leading, office administration, and more. Please mark on your children’s
form that you are interested in serving, or email Robat
RobM@Baysidewest.com

How does my child prepare for small groups each week?

In addition to regularly attending their small group, children are expected
to complete their lesson and memorize at least one Bible verse per week,
with the help of a parent. Please set aside time each week to review the
lesson with your child.  This is a great way to grow alongside your child
and spiritually impact their lives for now and eternity.
